Leeuwarden UNESCO City of Literature has done research into various reading promotion campaigns and collaborations in the field of reading for pleasure in the province of Friesland. We looked at the situation in both the Frisian and Dutch languages.
In addition to the professionalization of writers and poets, internationalization, and innovation in multilingualism and multimedia, we consider supporting reading promotion and literacy as one of our main tasks.
By mapping existing initiatives, we can see what is already is being done, and uncover any gaps in the current offerings. In this way, we hope to encourage cooperation, insofar as the organizations in the field are not already doing this themselves (or intending to do so).
Leeuwarden UNESCO City of Literature supports these collaborations and wants to contribute to a Frisian reading offensive in its role as a booster and connector. We see this report as a first step!
