During the Thriller Weeks (13-31 May), Bibliotheek Drachten is organising a writing competition for amateur writers living in or originating from Smallingerland. The assignment: write a short suspenseful story set in summer, in which a location in the municipality of Smallingerland plays a role in some way.
The competition is open to all ages, divided into three categories: children (up to 12 years), youth (13-20 years) and adults (21+). Stories can be written in Dutch or Frisian and must be between 1,200 and 2,500 words. For the youngest category, a minimum of 500 words applies.
One winner will be selected in each age category. The winners will receive a prize and their stories will be published on the Bibliotheek Drachten website. The winning stories will also be printed together as a modest publication.
How to submit
Stories can be submitted from 21 June to 16 August via activiteiten@bibliotheekdrachten.nl. Please include your first and last name, date of birth, place of residence and telephone number with your submission. The jury will assess the stories from 17 August. Winners will be notified by 11 September at the latest.
