The Greensboro Review honors with The Keens Prize poets aged 50 and older who work (or have worked) in a different field. Submissions are possible from November 1 until January.

The Greensboro Review seeks new writing from authors representing a wide range of backgrounds in terms of gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, ability, age, class, citizenship, nationality, region, education, and publication history.

The journal particularly welcomes previously unpublished writers and work that shows courage or may have been overlooked elsewhere.

Since 1966, The Greensboro Review has been led by faculty members and students, each year with new graduate student editors. This means your work is read by fresh eyes with diverse editorial perspectives. Besides The Keens Prize, there is also the Robert Watson Prose Prize.

William Keens Poetry Prize in brief:

  • Open to poets aged 50+ with a (long) career outside the creative field
  • Submission period (November 1 – January 1)
  • Entry fee: $20
