The Poetry Route in Leeuwarden has been expanded with audio files and English translations (made by David Colmer). Leeuwarden now has more than sixty poetry stones. Most of them can be found in the historic city centre. Via Poezieroute.nl, the poems can be listened to or read in Frisian, English or Dutch. This makes poetry in the city increasingly visible and accessible.

The newly added audio and translations include works by Toon Tellegen, Melvin van Eldik, Marrit Jellema, J.C. Bloem, Sytse Jansma and Peter Vermaat.

About the Poetry Route

Leeuwarden offers a unique collection of poems in stone. Walking through the streets of the city centre, reflecting on verses and phrases by local and nationally renowned poets and writers. Since the first series of ten poems in September 1993, stones have been added every year.

A bilingual anthology with fifty poems has now been published, available at Afûk, Historisch Centrum Leeuwarden and Boekhandel van der Velde.

The audio and translations were added by Stichting Poëzietableaus Leeuwarden in collaboration with Leeuwarden UNESCO City of Literature.
