Verhalenavond continues to grow! After years of great developments under the wings of theatre group Pier21, the organisation will move to the Frisian Library Network (FBN) in 2025. A great step that ensures that Verhalenavond can continue to grow and become widely anchored throughout Friesland.

In recent years, Pier21 has not only put Verhalenavond on the map, but has also further developed it artistically. New storytelling methods have been tried out and further refined, so that stories become even stronger and more accessible. This knowledge is accessible to everyone, which has contributed to the success and growth of the event. Now it is time for the next phase: securing and further development within FBN.

Future without major changes
Verhalenavond remains in trusted hands. The content remains the same and the project management will also remain with Wini Weidenaar. The transition to FBN mainly means a direct connection with all Frisian libraries, which means that even more people can be reached and Verhalenavond has an even greater impact. Libraries are places where stories live, so the step to FBN feels like a natural development.

“Stories” brings people together. In the libraries we see every day how important and powerful that is. With Verhalenavond as part of the Frisian Library Network, we can reach even more people and let them enjoy the power of stories,” says Rien Vrijenhoek, director of Drachten library on behalf of the FBN.

Merk Fryslân will contribute by bringing Verhalenavond to the attention of cultural and tourist entrepreneurs and visitors. They also help think along in the search for special places where storytellers can share their story.

Verhalenavond 2025
The next Verhalenavond will be on 21 November 2025, with this year’s theme ‘When I was brave’. As always, everyone can open their doors to share stories.
