On Tuesday 26 May, we held the first of two open office hours for authors at Sneek Library. A diverse group of writers dropped in, from those with a first book idea to authors with a nearly finished manuscript, working in Frisian, Dutch, or both.
Many questions focused on the practical side of being a writer: how to find a publisher, the options for self-publishing, grants and subsidies, and fees for reading performances. Broader conversations also emerged about the Frisian literary landscape and how to support new talent in the north. Where helpful, we pointed people towards publishers, editors, and organisations that could take their question further.
Writing is often a solitary pursuit, and that is precisely why so many authors run into questions they cannot easily find answers to. The second open office hours will take place on Tuesday 27 October at Drachten Library, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. Feel free to drop in.
