In 2026, the ark, which previously belonged to writer Rink van der Velde, will be available again for a writer who wants to work on Frisian literature (or literature in another regional language of Fryslân) in complete peace and quiet. The ark is located in a beautiful spot in a nook on the Drachtster Heawei near De Veenhoop and is owned by It Fryske Gea.
Apart from the costs for food, drinks and other personal expenses, staying in the ark is free. The writer/poet signs a rental contract with It Fryske Gea, but the rent is paid by the Stifting Frysk Letterkundich Museum en Dokumintaasjesintrum (FLMD). Unlike other years, the ark is now also available in spring, autumn and winter.
Writers can register for one week per year. There is a maximum of 15 places available in 2026.
The Ark is available during the following periods:
February 1 – April 24, 2026
July 20 – August 7, 2026
October 19 – December 31, 2026
Interested parties can express their interest in writing to Antje Postma, skriuwersarke@stiftingflmd.frl, until January 1, 2026. In addition to the preferred week, the writer/poet must also indicate what they intend to do. If the ark has already been booked during the preferred period, contact will be made to discuss further options. A committee from the board of the FLMD Foundation will decide which writers/poets can use the ark.
