Alen Hrustic (13) from Joure wins the Lytse Gysbert Japicx Prize 2025, the prize for the best Frisian poem written by pupils in groups 7 and 8 of primary education in Friesland. On Saturday 11 October he will receive ‘The Golden Fear’ and a certificate in the Martini Church in Bolsward, at the same time that the Gysbert Japicx Prize will also be awarded to writer Elmar Kuiper for his poetry collection Ferlosboartsje.

The Gysbert Japicx Prize has existed since 1947 and in 2013 the Lytse Gysbert Japicx Prize was also established to teach children more about the writer and poet Gysbert Japicx (1603-1666), the Frisian language and the art of writing poetry. Children throughout Friesland participated in an educational project by Tresoar, wrote poems and submitted them to be eligible for this coveted prize.
