At the end of 2024, Drachten | Smallingerland Library was named the best-performing library in the Netherlands for the second year in a row. A unique achievement! Following last year’s two-day Best Library Festival, Drachten | Smallingerland Library is organizing the Best Library Week from Sunday, November 16th to Saturday, November 22nd. Each day will focus on a specific area of the library’s expertise, such as arts & culture, low literacy, and youth & education. During the new, extended opening hours, you can enjoy free activities and festivities every day, such as lectures and performances by Karim Amghar, Eef van Opdorp, Said El Haji, Bert Wagendorp, Jorrit de Klerk, Maren Stoffels, and Lex Paleaux, among others.
On Monday, November 17th, Karim Amghar will explain why vocational education (MBO) is the Most Important Education in the Netherlands. He is a program maker and MBO lecturer and writes for De Correspondent and Trouw. Eef van Opdorp is known for the TV program “Uitstel van Executie” (Postponement of Execution). On Tuesday, November 18th, she will offer tips on income, expenses, and saving, and will help you look at your finances with a fresh perspective. Author, publicist, and teacher Said El Haji will share his experiences as a Dutch as a Second Language (NT2) teacher with humor and compassion. On Thursday, November 20th, he will demonstrate how language is not only a means of communication, but also a key to understanding and connection.
From Library Hairdresser to Book Sushi
Tickets for these lectures, as well as the author performances by Bert Wagendorp (Sun., Nov. 16th), Jorrit de Klerk and Maren Stoffels (both Wed., Nov. 19th), and Lex Paleaux (Fri., Nov. 21st), can be reserved. This also applies to the workshop “Make Your Own Fairy Tale Box,” the Library Hairdresser for those on a budget, the children’s performance by Theater Pannenkoek, and the Nourishing Book Sushi for parents and children. In addition, there are numerous drop-in activities. All activities are free of charge.
