With the launch of the new Bachelor Frisian at the University of Groningen, questions about the future of Frisian studies are back in focus. What exactly is the Frisian that we study? How is the language changing under the influence of multilingualism and new forms of language use? And how does Frisian studies respond to these changes?
In this lecture, linguist Anne Merkuur reflects on the relationship between language change and the academic study of Frisian. Merkuur works as a lecturer at the Fryske Akademy and the University of Groningen. In 2021 she earned her doctorate with a thesis on language change in Frisian verbs.
The Obe Postmaselskip, which aims to bring the work of Obe Postma to the attention of as broad and diverse an audience as possible, organises this lecture once a year in collaboration with Tresoar. This contributes to a vibrant cultural life in Friesland.
Organised by Studium Generale Leeuwarden and Obe Postmaselskip, in collaboration with Tresoar.
