Singer and language artist Nynke Laverman draws you into wondrous worlds with her enchanting voice. Her latest performance OAK is a magical journey through the realm of the soul, in which trees, animals and stones tell their stories.

Through songs, spoken word and storytelling, she weaves together with sound artist Sytze Pruiksma an ingenious musical landscape – sometimes edgy and contemporary, sometimes with the incantatory cadence of an ancient ritual. In an atmospheric setting of analogue video, Nynke examines and reflects our Western worldview in a tender, humorous way.

Together, Laverman and Pruiksma have been making adventurous, atmospheric music with poetic lyrics in Frisian and English for over 20 years. After Plant (2021), a compelling album described by the press as hypnotic, she builds with OAK on what she has sown.

Nynke finds her inspiration in cultures that live in harmony with their surroundings, such as the Kazakh nomads in Mongolia. Their view of the world, in which everything is connected to everything, became the thread running through her work.
