From 13 to 17 November, you can once again immerse yourself in films with a Nordic focus at the 44th edition of the Noordelijk Film Festival (Northern Film Festival) in Leeuwarden.
After the poetic film That They May Face the Rising Sun on Saturday 16 November, Leeuwarden UNESCO City of Literature will present a discussion with leading actors Barry Ward and Anna Bederke. Anna Lillioja will lead the discussion.
In That They May Face the Rising Sun, director Pat Collins sketches an intimate portrait of the Irish countryside. The story follows a year in the life of a couple who return from London to their native village. As they reconnect with nature and the community, the rhythms of rural life unfold in a picturesque, meditative way.
Based on the book of the same name by John McGahern, Collins masterfully captures the silence and beauty of the landscape. The film was praised for its tranquil cinematography and respectful depiction of Irish life. That They May Face the Rising Sun was Best Film and was nominated for the Irish Film & Television Awards.
Tickets for the film will be available from October 30 on the website of the Northern Film Festival. Admission to the post-screening discussion is free.
