At the invitation of the Heerenveen Literary Activities Foundation (SLAH), Joost Oomen is coming to Heerenveen. Joost Oomen is a poet, writer, drummer and performer. He grew up in IJsbrechtum and attended Bogerman College in Sneek. After studying in Groningen, he was both resident poet of the University of Groningen and city poet of Groningen. In 2011 he won the Hendrik de Vriess Scholarship for new literature.
Oomen has performed from Pisa to Ter Apel, from Viseu to Vlieland and from the church to the chicken coop. He performed at festivals including Lowlands, Oerol, Into the Great Wide Open, ILFU, Explore the North, Wintertuin, Crossing Border and De Parade.
Besides being a poet, Oomen is active as an organiser of Office Poetry, Poets in the Prince’s Garden and Explore the North, and as a writing tutor for primary and secondary education. He writes columns for the Leeuwarder Courant.
His books include Visjes (novel, 2022), De eerste kip van Nederland (Gelders History Gift), Lievegedicht (poetry, 2023) and Het paradijs van slapen (novel, 2024).
