DE GJALP is a project at the intersection of literature and film. Last spring, Frisian writers were invited to submit film ideas and Frisian poets to write poetry based on special film footage from the Frisian Film & Audio Archive.
Ten winners were selected from a large number of submissions: Tamara Feddema, Remco Kuiper, Myrte Marije Veenbaas, Ruerd Smaling, Marije de Lange, Erik de Boer, Hein Jaap Hilarides, Jorrit de Klerk, Sina Keuning, and Anne Fie Salverda. They subsequently worked on small productions for the Northern Film Festival, where the results will also be presented: on Sunday afternoon, November 9th, you’ll see poetry paired with film, performances with film and animation, and other special projects where film and literature intersect. Following the presentation, from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM, a DE GJALP reception will take place until 6:00 PM.
DE GJALP is a project by literary magazine Ensafh, general cultural opinion magazine De Moanne and Frisian Poetry Collective RIXT. DE GJALP aims to organize literary programs at various festivals in the coming years, challenging Frisian writers and poets to showcase their talent in new ways.
