Afûk publishes Ein Bratkartoffelverhältnis (Liefde in oorlogstijd / Love in Wartime) by Willem Verf. This novella is based on the memories of his parents, who fell in love in Germany during the war, while the Ruhr area was being heavily bombed.
How do people who are not heroes get through times of destruction, death and disruption? From the fragments passed on to him as a child, Verf has created a compelling, moving and realistic story. Willem Verf has never been this personal before.
During the presentation, Mirjam Bakker will talk with Willem Verf about his book and the story behind the translation. Author Lomme Schokker will explain what makes this book so special, and Verf will read a passage himself. With musical performances by Frederike Kleefstra and Corinne Staal.
Willem Verf made his debute in 1982 en won the Fedde Schurerprijs in 1984. Other work: It swijen net wurdich (2008), Bûtenman & Bûtenfrou (2013), De wûndere leafde fan Emine en Einte (2021).
