On April 29, De Arbeiderspers will publish ‘De Baptisten’, the new novel by Nyk de Vries. You are cordially invited to the presentations in Groningen, Burgum and Amsterdam. Nyk will sign and of course read from his new book. He will also perform with his early music friends, Geart Postma and Fokke van der Veen. Admission is free. Everyone is welcome!
‘De Baptisten’ is strongly inspired by Nyk’s own music and religious past. The focus is on the friendship between Marten and Wytse, who know each other from school and church. When they start a band together, it stirs up a lot. The group forms a close-knit clan, but despite success and passionate performances, cracks slowly appear in the friendship as forces pull on the boys from all sides. Years after their breakup, on a sultry afternoon, Marten takes his son to a playmate. At his Moroccan grandmother’s house he is confronted with his younger self in a compelling way.
