Acclaimed author Maartje Wortel is coming to Heerenveen for an interview. With her debut Dit is jouw huis (2010), Wortel immediately won a major prize for best debut. Her novels Half mens and IJstijd were both nominated for several major literary awards; Half mens won the BNG Literature Prize.

De Volkskrant named her the literary promise of 2014 and praised her ‘dry-comic original narrative voice that leaves out more than it tells’. A theme in her work is: ‘what do I see and what do you see’. In De groef – een wandeling (2021), she describes five years of daily walks through Amsterdam’s Oosterpark with friend Nina Weijers. In 2024, her latest book Camping was published.

Wortel’s stories have been translated into German, French, English and Italian.
