The Frisian Gift Book for the Fryske Boekewike (Frisian Book Week) 2026 will be written by no fewer than six writers. Gabrielle Terpstra, Marije de Lange, Martsje de Jong, Gerard de Jong, Henk van der Veer and Johan Veenstra will each write a story for the Gift Book, which will be published under the title Libje fanút gelok (Living from Happiness). The book will be full of personal, warm, vulnerable, humorous, topical and mythical stories.
Publisher Eddy van der Noord of Uitgeverij Louise is enthusiastic about the project. He considers it important that the book also gives attention to regional languages such as Stellingwerfs, Snekers and Bildts. “This gift book helps keep those regional languages and Frisian alive. One of the writers has already finished his story, and I don’t want to discourage the other writers, but the bar is set high.”
Fryske Boekewike: 31 October to 8 November 2026
During the entire Book Week, the 2026 Gift Book is available for free with the purchase of at least €15 worth of Frisian books. The book is published in collaboration with Uitgeverij Louise from Grou.
The Gift Book is an initiative of Boeken fan Fryslân, which works to promote reading and Frisian books, among other things by organising the Fryske Boekewike and the Sutelaksje.
