On June 20, it was announced that writer, poet, and translator Eppie Dam had passed away. He left behind a rich Frisian oeuvre.

Eppie Dam came from Kollumerpomp and worked as a teacher in Urk and Balk. He was prolific and versatile: poems, children’s books, and spiritual works, as well as translations in every form. He created cantatas with various composers and translated the St Matthew Passion into Frisian in the version by Jan Rot. In 2023, he created his own Frisian passion, In frjemdling yn Jeruzalem. This was followed in 2024 by Pompster Psalmen, an autobiography in verse.

Eppie Dam also wrote for Leeuwarden City of Literature. He created a poem for the literary Christmas card (2021) with which we thanked the staff of the MCL in Leeuwarden, accompanying a sculpture by Janine van Zeeland. For Klein Geluk (2025), he wrote Gjin sin oan trek. You can read a memorial on his publisher’s website.
