This year’s Dutch Book Week Gift will also be published in a Frisian translation. Piaggio is written by Peter de Smet, the bestselling author behind the popular diaries of Hendrik Groen. De Smet remained anonymous for more than ten years, but is stepping out of anonymity for the first time for Dutch Book Week.
The Frisian translation was made by Ytsje Steen-Buwalda. Peter de Smet responds enthusiastically: ‘Piaggio in het Fries! Hindrik Grien is sa grutsk as in pau!’
This is already the ninth Frisian translation of the Book Week Gift. In 2018, the first Frisian version was published, which was so well received that it became an annual tradition.
About Piaggio
Life isn’t exactly smiling at Anton (61): wife gone, job lost, and a meddlesome father on his back. Marieke (58) could also use some luck, struggling with love and a difficult daughter. When they first meet at a party, chance and a few drinks help them along. Literally and in life.
Dutch Book Week: March 11-22
When you spend €17.50 or more on books, you’ll receive the Book Week Gift – in Dutch or Frisian – for free.
The Frisian translation is an initiative of Boeken fan Fryslân, the organization for the promotion of Frisian books.
