In the church Dorpskerk Huizum, the (Dutch) Slauerhoff Lecture is held annually by a Dutch prominent. This always happens around the date of the death of Leeuwarden-born poet Slauerhoff. On Thursday, October 6, the Slauerhoff Lecture will be given by prof. dr. mr. C.J.M. (Kees) Schuyt.

The title of the lecture by sociologist and lawyer Schuyt is: Slauerhoff’s life and contemporary (in)tolerance. He also reflects on important thinkers on the importance of tolerance such as Coornhert, Bayle and Voltaire.

After the break there will be a scoop by the well-known Frisian tenor Albert Bonnema: together with pianist Andrew Wise, he will bring a musical ode to Jan Slauerhoff. These are songs on text by Slauerhoff, composed by Wim Franken. In addition, Andrew Wise wrote two new compositions based on texts by the great Frisian poet.
