Lecture and book presentation by Sinan Can at Cultuurpodium Dorpskerk Huizum, Leeuwarden.
On Thursday, December 10, documentary filmmaker and investigative journalist Sinan Can will give a lecture and book presentation about his new book Het boek der Omhelzingen (The Book of Embraces). He traveled for years through conflict zones for TV programs seeking stories of people behind the headlines. In his new book, he lets another, softer voice be heard—contemplative, warm, and full of humanity. In forty comforting stories, he connects the everyday with the timeless, and the personal with the universal.
Sinan Can has written books, but of course he is also well-known from the many documentaries that appeared on television and from his columns in various media. Anthropologist and former journalist of the Leeuwarder Courant Kirstin van Santen will interview him. After the lecture, Sinan Can will sign copies of his new book.
That same evening, attention will also be given to artist Gabriëlle Westra. She created the winning portrait of Sinan Can on the TV program “Stars on Canvas.” He will bring this painting along.
