Ahmed Aboutaleb, the widely acclaimed former mayor of Rotterdam, is releasing a new version of his autobiography Thuis (2025).
It is fifty years after his arrival in the Netherlands and two years after his departure from Rotterdam when Aboutaleb will explain his extraordinary life and his vision of society. The lecture of an hour and a half is larded with a lot of poetry. At the beginning, in the middle and at the end there is lute music, played by Martin Pals. After the lecture, Aboutaleb will sign his book.
Pals was born in Leeuwarden in 1964 and has a great name as a lute player, teacher and composer. Partly because the lute is originally a Moroccan instrument, Aboutaleb is committed to his arrival.
Before Aboutaleb became mayor of Rotterdam (2009-2024), he was, among other things, an alderman in Amsterdam and state secretary for Social Affairs. The Jury of the City Mayors Foundation named him ‘best mayor in the world’ in 2021 and praised him for leading the metropolis of Rotterdam ‘with courage, patience and modesty’.
The entrance fee is € 7.00. Entrance tickets can be reserved in advance through the Ticket Office. There is little parking space near the church. Visitors can park – a short walk away and free of charge – in the car park opposite Intratuin (south side of Tijnjedijk).
