What makes a letter so special? And what is lost when we primarily send messages via phone and social media? Margriet Kemper and Froukje Reitsema explore the power, intimacy and significance of letters in their new performance.

Following their earlier production Each Other’s Other, they present another collage-like performance centred on letters. Letters from parents, loved ones, friends and writers form the thread running through it. A message is sent within a second and no one is unreachably far away anymore. Yet the letter still appears at important moments in life – in farewell, remembrance and loss, the power of written words becomes tangible again.

The creators read from personal and borrowed letters. Texts are also shared from Vincent van Gogh, Virginia Woolf, Simone de Beauvoir, Charlotte Brontë, Pedro Salinas and Jean-Paul Sartre. Stories from different times and lives touch each other and together form a performance full of emotion, passion, contemplation and humour.
