Christien Brinkgreve is coming to Sneek to talk about her bestseller Burdened House (Beladen Huis, 2025). In this book, she reflects on her complex life with Arend Jan Heerma van Voss (editor-in-chief of Haagse Post and VPRO radio), who died in 2022.
The book touches a sensitive nerve: ‘Brinkgreve makes you painfully aware that a woman can have everything perfectly in order outside the home, can even be a champion of feminism, but still often be assigned a subordinate role at home,’ according to De Reactor.
Since 1978, Brinkgreve has been writing lucidly about women and men, parents and children. Well-known titles include De belasting van de bevrijding (1988), De vrouw en het badwater (1992) and Vroeg mondig laat volwassen (2004). She was professor emeritus of Social Sciences and professor of Women’s Studies.
