Anne-Goaitske Breteler is a Frisian writer, journalist, anthropologist, podcast and exhibition maker. She grew up at the foot of the dike in Friesland, on a farm between Nes and Oosternijkerk. She is the daughter of singer and artist Gerrit Breteler and cultural entrepreneur Anke Bijlsma.
Her books reflect her broad interests: De traanjagers (2018) about whaling, the Frisian children’s book In nuverá nacht (2020), The Last Days of the Village Fool (2024) about mental health in rural areas, and Oan ‘e ein fan De Oere (2025), the Frisian Book Week gift. She also makes podcasts and exhibitions.
