Enjoying stories together enriches life. That’s why Leeuwarden UNESCO City of Literature, together with De Samenleesclub, started Mei-inoar lêze (reading together) throughout Friesland. They read in libraries, village houses, and other locations.
Mei-inoar lêze is not a traditional book club. Everyone can participate—no preparation or prior knowledge needed. You can join every session or just come once. Texts are distributed on-site and read aloud. The group decides which language to read and speak in. Those who wish can respond to the texts. What do the words say? How do they affect you? Does the text touch you? Do you recognize something?
The focus is always on the connection between texts and daily life. Memories, associations, emotions, and thoughts lead to beautiful conversations. It’s a free activity—no registration required. Coffee and tea are provided.
