The club from Friesland, together with various primary schools and libraries, gave the starting shot for the national project Scoor een Boek! (Score a Book!) The 1800 participating primary school students receive a video message from Erwin Mulder, keeper of sc Heerenveen. In it he calls on all children to participate in the project. Scoor een Boek! is a reading project in which the Frisian libraries, Fers, schools and sc Heerenveen work together to increase children’s enjoyment of reading.

For the next nine weeks, the children of the 47 participating primary schools will be encouraged to score as many books as possible. Janny Leenstra, teacher at the St. Mattheus School in Joure, explains: “The children were super enthusiastic during the first edition last year. Because during Scoor een Boek! with the whole class paying attention to reading books, children become more motivated. Thanks to the total package: the fifteen minutes of free reading, making a basic arrangement of the eleven books, sticking the stickers and the video messages of Erwin Mulder, they get into conversation and become increasingly enthusiastic to start in a book. ”

Project Scoor een Boek!
With the project Scoor een Boek! professional football clubs from all over the country are working with libraries to encourage grades 5 and 6 children to read and exercise more. Good language skills are the basis for independence and a healthy lifestyle.

The power of football is used to stimulate reading motivation and reading pleasure in students and families, by using professional football players as role models. Professional football player Erwin Mulder, who is associated with the project this year, has children of his own and is a great advocate of reading aloud at a young age.

The importance of vitality
“The Vriendenloterij prize we won for our submitted project ‘Wy tinke oan Moarn’, of which Scoor een Boek! is a component, it gives us the opportunity to explore how we can connect reading and movement even more. Reading makes you vital, as does exercise. ” Unfortunately, this year, due to the corona measures, no joint sporting closure can take place on the sports field. “That is why we are going to look at how we can dress extra grand this coming year – in the hope that everything is possible again – together with the parties involved GGD Fryslân and of course Fers,” said Margryt Gerritsma, CSR Manager at sc Heerenveen.

Home edition
This year Scoor een Boek! also deployed on the home edition. Participating children receive football stickers and a poster with assignments. These assignments range from reading to your pet to discussing your favorite character in the book together. This motivates the whole family to make an active contribution. The digital Home edition www.scoorthuis.nl is available to families from 1 February.
