Slowing

Everything is slower when it’s cold:
charging, going mouldy,
getting out of bed,
falling in love.

A dog that lives seven years in one
has 168 hours in a day,
licks as slowly as it can
at a frozen lamppost.

The last fruit fly of the year
is allergic to mandarins,
dies as slowly as it can
in the husk of a beechnut.

I light a candle,
hold it under a mirror ball,
dance as slowly as I can,
every beat a rest.
