Exposing literature more and more is one of the goals of Leeuwarden City of Literature. That is why the municipality of Leeuwarden asked the organisation of Leeuewarden City of Literature to place a first literary bench at the Grote or Jacobijnerkerk. On June 30, 2022, the bank was unveiled by alderman Hein Kuiken of the municipality of Leeuwarden.
Poet Sytse Jansma has given context to the bank for Leeuwarden City of Literature. He has linked the literature project Sprekende stenen from Over de drempel to the literary bank. Artist and furniture maker Ineke van der Blom designed and made the bank and the ‘talking’ stones that are placed in eight buildings in the center of Leeuwarden.
In the coming years, Leeuwarden City of Literature also wants to develop literary banks in other municipalities in the province of Fryslân.
