The Fryske Boekewike (Frisian book week) broke a record this year: the gift book ‘Oan ’e ein fan De Oere’ by Anne-Goaitske Breteler is completely sold out. Never before has there been such high demand for the specially published Book Week gift, which was published in a print run of 1,500 copies.
Ida Heddema of Boeken fan Fryslân: “The gift book was almost sold out halfway through Boekewike, and then Anne-Goaitske still had to give three readings. Unfortunately, we had to disappoint bookstores that had purchased too few copies, because we could no longer supply them.”
Anita Schaaf of Boekhandel Van der Velde in Dokkum about the success: “We have never sold so many Frisian books. The entire shelf with Frisian fiction and non-fiction was practically empty.”
The moving story of the four Zwart children from Paesens-Moddergat has clearly touched many readers. Author Anne-Goaitske Breteler: “I didn’t expect Boekewike to be so successful. It was packed, and the audience reacted with a wealth of new information and unique anecdotes about the Zwart family. I’m still enjoying it.”
Due to its great success, a second edition of Oan ’e ein fan De Oere will be published on Friday, November 28th, in an edition of 1,000 copies by Afûk Publishers.
