On Friday 2 July, Regional poet of Noardeast-Fryslân, Geart Tigchelaar, will get on his bike in Dokkum to cycle through all 52 villages in the municipality in two weeks. Every day he passes through about three to four villages to end up back in Dokkum on July 16.

During his journey, Tigchelaar wants to write a long poem entitled Ballade fan Noardeast and hopes to gain inspiration not only from the journey through the region itself, but also by meeting the inhabitants of all the villages and the city of Dokkum. For that reason, the Regional Poet also calls on everyone to visit him when he arrives in your village. In this way it should become a poem about the region from which the title of the project comes. Tigchelaar has a kind of flipchart on his bicycle cart where everyone can write down something that he/she thinks should be included in the poem. Tigchelaar’s website, wurdbyld.com, lists his route and daily schedule, so that people can see when he is in which village.

The starting shot for the cycling tour will be given on 2 July at 10:00 am in front of the library of Dokkum. There will also be a performance by the previous Regional Poet, Jankobus Seunnenga.

Geart Tigchelaar (1987) was appointed Regional Poet of Noardeast-Fryslân in January and has held that position for two years. In doing so, he wants to draw attention to poetry by initiating various projects. For example, he is on the market in Dokkum every last Wednesday of the month with the Merkgedicht project.
