As a prelude to the annual “Verhalenavond” (story night), a small-scale online story night will take place on Friday 19 June. Three speakers – an entrepreneur, teacher and someone from the healthcare sector – will tell an appealing 8 minute story with the theme ‘The Virus’. The subject: the impact of the coronavirus on their lives.

The stories are told via Zoom and there is room for up to 50 people. The evening starts at 7.30 pm and lasts until 8.15 pm. You can sign up for this online story night via www.verhalenavond.nl.

The idea for the online story night was born during the corona crisis. The organization of “Verhalenavond”, Pier21, was busy preparing the regular event and was faced with the question: what if we can’t meet in November? How are we going to share stories? In recent weeks, the organization has organized a number of online test evenings in a small committee to gain experience. People watch and listen in from the garden, on the sofa or at the kitchen table. Experience shows that people like to use the screen for something completely different from work and school. That’s the reason for the ‘open’ online “Verhalenavond”.

It is still unknown whether the November event will become a regular edition with physical encounters, an online event or a combination of on- and offline. What we do know is that the theme will also be “The Virus” and that – as usual – everyone can participate.
