In collaboration with Leeuwarden City of Literature, the Generatiehuis is organizing a series of four interactive lectures by and about the literary world in Fryslân. The lectures highlight various aspects of writing and literature and will be given on four Wednesday evenings from 28 October.

Wednesday, October 28: Jitske Kingma, publisher

Jitske Kingma owns the Elikser publishing house in Leeuwarden. She previously worked as a journalist, was editor-in-chief of the Friesch Dagblad and editor of literary-cultural magazine de Moanne. She also published herself. On the start evening of the lecture series, she gives a glimpse into the world of publishing, in which major changes have taken place over the past 20 years. She also talks about her own, special publishing house which publishes books in a “traditional” way as well as through Printing On Demand (POD).

Wednesday, November 4: Arjan Hut, poet

Arjan Hut is a Frisian writer and poet. He made his debut in 2004 with the collection Nachtswimmers; his most recent collection was recently released and is called Fjoertoer yn it wâld. In 2005 he was appointed the first city poet of Leeuwarden. He is currently Wâld poet of the municipality of Achtkarspelen. As a poet he will tell about poetry in his characteristic passionate way and he will give a brief poetry workshop to those present.

Wednesday November 24: Eduard Kuijt, bookseller

Eduard Kuijt is the owner of Binnert Overdiep bookshop in Heerenveen and a member of the Advisory Board for the (Dutch) Royal Association of the Book Trade. From the perspective of an active cultural entrepreneur, he speaks about both the business and cultural aspects of running a bookstore.

Wednesday December 1st: Tialda Hoogeveen, writer

Tialda Hoogeveen is a writer and journalist. Most recently she published the successful non-fiction novel De geur van hooi (Thomas Rap, 2020) and the children’s book Oerstoer, (Ploegsma, 2019). She will talk about writing non-fiction, in particular about the use and processing of source material.
