The largest sculpture garden in Europe is activated again. Saturday March 20, the 11fountains are allowed to clatter again. During Leeuwarden-Fryslân 2018, European Capital of Culture, eleven internationally renowned artists enriched the eleven Frisian cities with unique water works. The art project 11fountains is already being seen as the cultural heritage of Friesland. Every year on Kletterdei, the fountains are turned on for a new season in which mist, ice, steam and sea water adorn the creations.

Poet of Fryslân pays tribute

With a fountain in each of the Frisian cities, the 11fountains art project can rightly bear the name of the largest sculpture garden in Europe. The annual activation of the fountains is a festive one moment. Due to the current restrictions, unfortunately no spectators can be present at the event. To celebrate the activation, a video will go live on www.friesland.nl/11fountains on 20 March at 09.00, in which the works of art can still be admired by a wide audience. Extra special is the poem that Poet van Fryslân Nyk de Vries wrote especially for the 11fountains and recites in the video. The fountains are a special place for him. “What I like is that it has always been the place where people with different insights come together,” says de Vries.
