In 2020, the Leeuwarden city cleaning service is exactly 150 years old. This was reason enough for Poetry Tableaus Leeuwarden to add a poem to the poetry route as an ode to the garbage collector. Nyk de Vries, currently Poet of Fryslân, was eager to participate. Thanks to Anne Feddema, his beautiful poem “Asman” (garbage man) has been translated into Liwwadders, the city language of Leeuwarden. The unveiling (in a small circle) will take place on Wednesday December 9.

The poetry tableau will be located on the street De Schrans, close to the place where the entrance to the city cleaning organisation used to be. The poetry tableau “Asman” is typographically shaped like a garbage bag and is unveiled by Piet Prins, who is a garbage man and whose father had the same profession. He thus symbolizes all the garbage collectors who have given their best efforts to this essential government task for 150 years. Nyk de Vries reads the poem on that occasion.

The tableau was made possible with the support of city cleaning organization Omrin and the municipality of Leeuwarden.
