Schrijver Eduard Olesti uit Barcelona woont en werkt op uitnodiging van Leeuwarden City of Literature een maand in de stad. Vandaag het laatste deel uit zijn dagboek als writer in residence.

Dear Leeuwarden,

It’s time for me to leave and I’m not sure I understand. It seems that I arrived yesterday and now it’s already tomorrow.

I went to Schiermonnikoog and oh boy that was beautiful. I already told Sito: I think I’m moving there. I will become a fisherman. Or a seagull. Imagine I start growing feathers and I shout out of pain but that suffering is a liberation because I become a Wadden Sea bird. Imagine I can fly around and have multitudes as families and I circle around the Earth looking for warmness.

I guess being a seagull is similar to being a poet. You also grow feathers out of pain but they let you go around the world with your hands in your pocket. And if you land in a City of Literature that treats you with the warmness you were looking for and they invite you to beer and bitterballen, then you are a lucky bird.

See you around!

Eduard
