On Friday, September 26, the last two nuns of the Franciscan order, Sister Veronique and Sister Desiree, unveiled a poetry stone at Vitushof Cemetery. In Leeuwarden The poem on the stone is by poet Peter Vermaat and serves as a special tribute to those who found their final resting place at Vitushof. The unveiling coincided with the opening of a QR code route through the cemetery.
Vitushof Cemetery in Leeuwarden reflects the city’s history. Visitors to the cemetery will discover familiar names of Leeuwarden shopkeepers, but there are many more special stories and remarkable monuments. A route has now been created that leads visitors past more than twenty special places in the cemetery. By scanning QR codes, visitors can hear the corresponding stories.
