On 14 June, Lara Kool (1985) from Dokkum was appointed as the new Harbour Poet of Leeuwarden. The appointment took place on board the Stânfries X in the museum harbour of Leeuwarden. Albert Schaafsma, board member of the Stânfries, opened the afternoon and spoke about the importance of a Harbour Poet, of volunteers and of subsidies to keep the Stânfries sailing.
For her first project, Lara spoke with volunteers of the Museum Harbour Leeuwarden foundation, board members and people living in the museum harbour. These conversations resulted in poems, which can be seen throughout the hold as part of the Havenhollen project: on black-and-white silhouette portraits, posters and boat flags. She will continue working on this project over the summer; official booklets will be published in September.
Lara has more plans for this year. On 27 September, during Museum Night, the costume performance Drama mei Deade Dichters will be staged on the Stânfries. In this collaboration with former Poet of Fryslân Sigrid Kingma and former winner of the Frisian Slam Aggie Meyer, the poets Simke Kloosterman, Ella Wassenaar and Rixt will be brought back to life. On 20 November, Lara will tell stories on board during Storytelling Night. She also hopes to organise a Christmas market.
