The Municipality of Leeuwarden opposes discrimination and racism. To further emphasize this, a poem by city poet Marrit Jellema was unveiled in the town hall on Tuesday morning, October 7th, Diversity Day.

The poem is based on an earlier poem against racism and discrimination that Marrit wrote for the Municipality of Leeuwarden earlier this year. This poem was shared with all employees by email on March 21st, the International Day for the Elimination of Racism and Discrimination. In the poem, Jellema calls on us to embrace our differences and treat each other with respect.

The Municipality of Leeuwarden is there for everyone, regardless of background, gender, or sexuality. The municipality’s vision is therefore: “The Municipality of Leeuwarden radiates that everyone is welcome, regardless of age, sex, origin, color, or orientation. There is no discrimination, and everyone has equal opportunities.”

To continue to convey this message to both employees and residents, Marrit Jellema’s poem will be displayed in a visible, permanent location. The poem is located on the white spiral staircase near the Civil Affairs counters. Marrit Jellema, councillor Nathalie Kramers, Tûmba employees and municipal employees were present at the unveiling.
