Every first Thursday of the month, the Ferhalefjoer – a place for stories – is lit in Harlingen. It’s the perfect place to listen to stories or tell them yourself. This initiative by storytellers Frank Belt, Ingrid Halfhide, and Baukje Koolhaas is inspired by ancient storytelling traditions.

The launch of Ferhalefjoer – a place for stories in Harlingen at the end of 2025 was a success: many visitors and wonderful stories shared. All the more reason to keep this fire burning, starting on Thursday, February 5th.

On February 5th, a week and a half before Carnival, the theme is masks. Vondel once wrote: “Life is a stage, everyone plays their part and gets their share.” Do you wear a mask in everyday life or do you show everything about yourself as it is? There are certainly plenty of stories to tell about that. But also think of that time you celebrated Carnival yourself or wore a disguise somewhere else. Storytellers Frank Belt, Baukje Koolhaas and Ingrid Halfhide will share stories about masks. Visitors who would like to share their own story can do so in the evening. It doesn’t matter whether they are personal stories or stories you’ve heard or read somewhere. Those who simply want to listen are also welcome.

The Ferhalefjoer will be lit at 7:30 PM at Havenbrouwerij Het Brouwdok, Nieuwe Willemskade 8, Harlingen. An hour later, it will be extinguished, allowing anyone who wishes to continue their conversation. Admission is free. Contributions can be made on the spot. Refreshments are at your own expense.

Ferhalefjoer will also be at Brouwdok in March and April.

On March 5th, the theme is Exceptional Women
On April 2nd, the theme is Appearances are deceptive
