The theme of the 71st Children’s Book Week is “Full of Adventure!” After all, in a book, adventure is never far away! From raging seas to enchanting lands, a great secret to a thrilling mystery, you name it, and it can be experienced with a children’s book. Children’s Book Week 2025 is all about experiencing exciting stories from the comfort of your own home or the warmth of your bed. Join the adventure!
Kevin Hassing wrote this year’s (Dutch) gift book with Lexie. It’s about a girl who loves superheroes. If only she were one herself, because in class, she often doesn’t feel like a hero at all. The picture book for Children’s Book Week is by Levina van Teunenbroek & Charlotte Bruijn. The duo has created a new installment in their adventurous “Ridder zonder billen” (knight without buttocks) series. The poet of the Children’s Book Week poem is Simon van der Geest, known for award-winning books like Spinder and Dissus. Plenty of reasons to visit a bookstore and pick up a great children’s book!
There are many activities to enjoy during Children’s Book Week. For example, there’s a Children’s Book Festival at the Sneek Library (October 4th) and a Children’s Book Ball at the Drachten Library (October 10th), and Kevin Hassing is coming to the dbieb (October 12th). Libraries in North Friesland and the Van der Velde bookstores are also hosting activities.
